The HPE Playbook – Community of Practice

Date & Time:

May 20, 2026 @ 3:30 pm - August 19, 2026 @ 4:30 pm
Active Education Australia’s Community of Practice (CoP) is a series of six 1-hour online professional learning meetings, where educators come together to learn, apply, and refine their teaching in a connected, practical, and supportive environment.

Across six 1-hour online sessions, you’ll unpack a high-impact lesson model designed to keep students moving, thinking, and learning from start to finish. Each session focuses on a key phase of effective HPE teaching, with practical strategies you can take straight into your next lesson.

We focus on the six phases that matter most:

  • 20 May – Unofficial Starts – Create active, engaging entry routines that have students moving, focused, and ready to learn the moment they arrive.
  • 10 June – Outcome Planning – Design clear learning outcomes so every student understands what success looks like and how to achieve it.
  • 24 June – Minor Games – Use high-repetition, low-pressure games to develop confidence and strengthen key movement and technical skills.
  • 22 July – Major Games –  Facilitate dynamic, game-based learning that challenges students tactically while keeping everyone actively involved.
  • 5 August – Meaningful Reflection – Guide meaningful reflection that helps students articulate what they learned, how they improved, and what’s next.
  • 19 August – Design with Purpose – Bring the model to life by creating and refining a complete unit plan that is engaging, structured, and ready to implement.
