Assessment professional learning opportunities outside the square? Read on!

Teachers – when it comes to assessment professional learning opportunities, you’ve told us that you learn best when presented with creative and innovative practices with take-aways you can also apply to your school and work.

If you’re looking for assessment professional development that supports you to think a little outside the square, you may consider the following opportunities:

VCE Assessing

Many of you have told us that marking VCAA VCE exams is a worthwhile exercise that helps you develop a deeper understanding of the study design and how to better assess students. Assessing VCE external assessments provides valuable professional development, a chance to interact with your colleagues, and a unique opportunity to contribute to the VCE external assessment process.

This professional development is paid. All appointed assessors receive a full day’s training covering all aspects of the assessment process which is recognised by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) as approved professional development. During the course of training, a wide range of student responses are explored to establish clear and consistent benchmarks for all assessors.

Applications are now open through the VCAA Sessional Staff Management System (SSMS) website.

Formative Assessment Rubrics Professional Learning

Are you interested in strengthening your knowledge and understanding of formative assessment rubrics to improve student learning outcomes for PE F-6 and Health 7-10? This PD might be for you 🙂

Based on the principles in the Guide to Formative Assessment Rubrics, teachers are encouraged to collaborate with other teachers, academics and VCAA Curriculum Managers to develop and trial their own formative assessment rubric in the classroom. You’ll also collect, assess and annotate student work samples for possible publication on the VCAA website.
