Celebrating World Teachers Day!
5 October is World Teachers Day! Every day, Victorian teachers make a positive difference by creating opportunities for their students, empowering the minds of young people and proudly teaching our future leaders, innovators and influencers.
World Teachers’ Day is an opportunity to celebrate and thank teachers everywhere for the important role they play inside our classrooms and out in the community.
Observed in over 100 countries world-wide, World Teachers Day was established in 1994 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to commemorate the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers and recognising the vital role teachers play in society.
The Recommendation sets international standards for a range of issues important to teachers. These issues include:
- Professional freedom
- Participation in educational decision-making
- Initial and continuing training
- Advancement and promotion
- Security of tenure
- Supervision and assessment
ACHPER Victoria 2019 HPE Teacher of the Year Awards
We are excited to announce nominations for the 2019 ACHPER Victoria HPE Teacher of the Year Awards open soon!
These awards recognise Primary and Secondary teachers who demonstrate leadership and exceptional Health and Physical Education (HPE) practice in Victorian schools. The awards also build awareness of the importance of quality HPE teaching required to embed healthy attitudes to being physically active for life in children and young people to the broader education, health and physical activity sectors.
By nominating yourself or a colleague, you are helping to shine the light more brightly on the important learning area of Health and Physical Education which focuses on students enhancing their own and others’ health, safety, wellbeing and physical activity. Keep an eye out for further details regarding nominations as they are released in the coming weeks.
To help celebrate World Teachers Day, here’s some words of teaching wisdom from ACHPER Victoria HPE Primary Teacher of the Year 2018, Christina P.
