Speedminton’s unique format evolved from a desire to play shuttle sports outdoors. It engaged social distancing by design, well before this term became a way of life.

Whilst official match courts are 12 metres apart, bringing racket-learning to the school oval removed constraints from students finding the fundamental striking movement and developing their hand / eye coordination.

Students have the space and time to learn how to hit and move a racket with effect, at their own pace. Eliminating the fear of error or point loss instils a freedom of movement. Spreading from a court to open spaces invites imaginative game creation and skill challenges, for both individuals and groups. It is particularly effective with junior students, where the mechanics of setting up drills becomes simpler, safer and achieves high levels of participation.

Combined with the user-friendly nature of the equipment, this free-style play has produced outstanding racket sport outcomes in over 3500 Australian schools.
Importantly now, Speedminton delivers a safe, compliant and easily supervised racket sport activity, with games and drills for all age, skill and enthusiasm levels.
