Quit Victoria’s NEW vaping education resources for years 5-6 support a smoke and vape-free future

With data from the 2022-23 Australian Secondary Students’ Alcohol and Drug (ASSAD) survey showing that 13% of Australian 12-15-year-olds vaped in the past month, it’s more important than ever that schools and settings where young people live, work or play provide clear, evidence-based education.

Seeing Through the Haze‘ from Quit is a free, evidence-based and curriculum-aligned education resource designed to help address this critical topic.

Building on the success of the year 7-10 Seeing Through the Haze education resources, Quit now offers a new education resource tailored for upper primary (year 5-6).

The accompanying teaching guide, designed to be used alongside the Seeing Through the Haze student resource, provides everything educators need to deliver vaping education, including:

  • clear curriculum links
  • lesson planning and delivery suggestions
  • answers to student activities
  • flexibility to use as an editable pdf or as printed resources
About Seeing Through the Haze:
  • the program engages students with activities and discussions grounded in real-world scenarios
  • the program supports teachers and health educators with comprehensive guides, making lesson preparation easy and delivery effective
  • the program fosters critical thinking by encouraging students to explore the health and social impacts of vaping

Quit has concurrently updated its’ Year 7-10 Seeing Through The Haze education resources, to ensure that they remain fit-for-purpose, contemporary and aligned to new best practice messaging and research evidence and national vaping reforms.

Quit encourages teachers and the community health and health promotion workforce, youth services, local councils and local public health units to use these new and updated education resources in their work with schools and school-aged young people.

Seeing Through the Haze is developed by Quit and Cancer Council Victoria in partnership with Monash University, Department of Education, VicHealth, Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, ACHPER Victoria, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools and Independent Schools Victoria.
