Active Central: Building a trusted national hub for quality programs and resources

Educators and schools are constantly looking for programs, resources and learning opportunities that support active, healthy lifestyles. Yet finding initiatives that are credible, curriculum-aligned and appropriate for school environments can often be difficult.

Across Australia there are many excellent programs being delivered by educators, organisations and community providers. The challenge is not a lack of quality initiatives, it is ensuring these programs are visible, trusted and easy for schools to access.

This challenge has shaped the development of Active Central, a national resource hub created by Active Education Australia.

Active Central connects educators, coaches, organisations and schools with trusted programs and resources in one place, helping communities discover learning opportunities that support active and healthy lives.

But what makes Active Central different is not simply the platform itself, it is the quality framework that sits behind it.

Quality is the foundation of the platform.

Many online directories simply list programs without evaluating their relevance or suitability for educational environments.

Active Central has been designed differently.

Every resource listed on the platform is reviewed through the Active Education Australia Quality Standards Framework (QSF), which has been developed and endorsed by an independent Quality Council.

The QSF provides a clear structure for assessing the quality, application and potential impact of educational resources and services across the physical education, health, outdoor education and recreation professions. Rather than relying on open listings, the framework helps ensure that programs shared with educators are relevant, evidence-informed and appropriate for school contexts.

A framework built around what matters in education.

The Quality Standards Framework evaluates programs across three key domains: content, application and impact.

  • Content focuses on the quality of the information within the resource or service, including accuracy, curriculum compatibility, evidence-based practice and inclusion.
  • Application considers how the program is delivered, including accessibility, presentation, safety and continuous improvement processes.
  • Impact examines the outcomes the program aims to achieve, including effectiveness, innovation and long-term sustainability.

Together these domains provide a comprehensive approach to evaluating programs, ensuring they are not only well designed, but also practical, relevant and capable of delivering meaningful outcomes for learners.

A transparent review process builds confidence.

To ensure trust and credibility, all programs listed on Active Central are reviewed through the Active Education Australia Quality Standards Framework (QSF). The framework provides a structured approach to assessing programs against clear quality standards. It supports consistency, transparency and continuous improvement across the sector, while ensuring that resources shared with educators are relevant, safe and educationally valuable. Rather than simply listing programs, Active Central applies this quality review process so that educators can explore opportunities with greater confidence.

For providers, the framework also offers constructive feedback that supports ongoing refinement and professional growth.

This approach helps maintain the integrity of the platform while encouraging organisations to continually strengthen the quality and impact of their programs.

A curated network rather than a marketplace.

Because of the Quality Standards Framework, Active Central has been designed as a curated professional network rather than a generic listing site.

For educators and schools, this means:

  • greater confidence that programs are appropriate for educational settings
  • clearer alignment with curriculum and learning outcomes
  • easier discovery of credible initiatives that support active and healthy lifestyles

For organisations and providers, it means their programs sit within a trusted national network that values quality, transparency and professional standards.

It also provides an opportunity for innovative programs and initiatives to gain visibility within a community that values quality and impact.

Building something powerful for the sector.

Active Central represents more than a resource hub. It is part of a broader effort to strengthen collaboration across the education, sport and recreation sectors. By bringing together trusted programs, quality standards and a national professional network, the platform aims to make it easier for educators and communities to discover meaningful learning experiences that support active, healthy lives.

We are building something powerful for our profession and we invite educators, organisations and innovators to help shape what it becomes.

Because when quality programs are easier to find, share and trust, the entire sector benefits.
