Looking forward: Term 4 and beyond!

What a challenging but exciting period the last 2 terms have been. Just as your teaching was turned on its head the past 6 months ACHPER Victoria’s plans for the remainder of 2020 were to say the least – thrown up in the air.

We have watched in awe as our wonderful HPE teaching community stood up and delivered quality HPE under the most trying of circumstances. We know many of you have developed new approaches to your teaching, enhanced your ICT capabilities and got to know and understand your students and their families through a completely different lens.

We’ve talked with a few teachers who have been amazed at their personal creativity, resilience and capacities they never thought existed. We would say these were lying in wait to be tested!

ACHPER Victoria has also thrived and grown through this period. While our team hasn’t been in the same physical space since late March, it has not prevented us from continuing to support you in your work. The time has allowed us to “speed up” the work we were already developing in preparation for supporting teachers in the online space.

Our highlights over Terms 2 and 3 include:

  1. Dedicating the content of our TOTWs towards different aspects of teaching at home.
  2. Developing a series of HPE at Home teaching resources that are free to ACHPER Victoria members and available for non-members. These resources have been accessed by over 1000 teachers.
  3. Delivered a series of F-10 and VCE webinars across a range of topics. These were attended by over 300 teachers.
  4. Developed an 8x session webinar series for the Knox SSV region. This group of teachers have engaged in a sequential webinar series covering Curriculum intent, FMS, Games Sense and theme-based planning.
  5. Developed a series of self-paced eLearn courses to enable teachers to engage in professional learning at a time and location (at home 😊) that is convenient for them.
  6. Released the FMS eBook. This resource is our newest F-10 resource and an essential guide to a range of evidence-based information and support for successful implementation of FMS. To date, more than 140 copies have been purchased.
  7. Launched the #TeachersInAction Virtual Conference which is fast approaching on 19-22 October.
What HPE teachers have said:

re: Knox webinar series:
“Thanks for yesterday’s webinar, it was a great start to look at different ways to approach the curriculum planning. A lot of the webinar has made me reflect on my on planning and what I’m covering in PE at my school. I really like the themed approach and would like to investigate how that would look sequenced from prep-year 6.”

re: FMS ebook:
“I recently purchased the new version of the FMS eBook, and it is awesome. Thank you for producing such a valuable resource.”

re: eLearn course ‘Creating a Vision’:
“I really enjoyed the precise nature of the course which allowed me to really focus on what I believe should be included in my PE program.”

As Victoria continues on its path towards COVID normal, Term 4 will see us continuing to support the HPE profession in line with government advice and recommendations.

We’re sure you’re all looking forward to seeing your students and fellow teachers again and wish you all the best for Term 4!

If you need further support at this time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
