Love the game, not the odds
Excessive sports betting promotion may lead someone to believe that gambling is normal, and that sport is all about the odds, not the game. When something feels normal, it doesn’t seem risky.
The Love the Game program is a Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation (the Foundation) initiative which aims to reduce young people’s exposure to sport betting advertising and to counter the social norm of gambling in sport.
How can you get involved?
Love the Game Sporting Club Program
The sporting club program aims to raise awareness within club communities about gambling as an issue. Current partners include AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria, Football Victoria, Melbourne Rebels, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Victory and all 10 Victorian based elite AFL clubs.
In addition, more than 400 local grassroots clubs are committed to reducing gambling harm and preserving what’s great about sport. A special Love the Game-themed round is happening 27–30 June 2019. Click here to learn more and join the Sporting Club Program >>
School Education Program
The Foundation’s school education program helps students navigate the new gambling environment and understand the risks involved. Click here for more details >>
Have “the talk”
We encourage parents and role models (coaches, teachers, relatives) to talk to young people about the risks and consequences of gambling, so they love the game, not the odds. For more information and tips on how to have “the talk” click here >>
