Updated VCAA info and professional learning for VCE Physical Education teachers

Victoria’s education and training regulator, VRQA, has recently granted an extension to VCE Physical Education accreditation periods. VCAA’s website has been updated to reflect this change, with key details provided below:

Accreditation period: Units 1 & 2 | 2017-2022:
•   Period for Units 1 & 2 Physical Education has been extended until 31 December 2022

Accreditation period: Units 3 & 4 | 2018-2022:
•   Period for Units 3 & 4 Physical Education has been extended until 31 December 2022


Upcoming VCAA webinars for VCE teachers

Following the monitoring of VCE Physical Education and the targeted consultation with students and teachers in relation to Unit 2, the VCAA has developed a number of resources to support teachers in the delivery and assessment of VCE Physical Education, Unit 2.

Each webinar will commence with a 30-minute segment from the Curriculum Manager for Health and Physical Education (HPE), Dr Rachael Whittle, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.The webinars will run from 3:45 – 4:45pm. Upon registration, further details will be communicated to registered participants via email.

VCE® Physical Education – Unit 2

Listed below are the webinar topics that focus on key issues from consultation with VCE Physical Education, Unit 2 students and teachers:

1. Understanding Unit 2 – The Content | Thursday 26 March 2020
The first in the webinar series will focus on the content in VCE Physical Education, Unit 2. Teachers will be taken through the structure of Unit 2, the intended outcome and the key knowledge and key skills.

2. Implementation of Unit 2 – Pedagogical approaches | Thursday 23 April 2020
In the second webinar in the series, teachers will be taken through a suggested / sample approach to the implementation and delivery of the content in VCE Physical Education, Unit 2. The webinar will look at a number of pedagogical approaches that can be used effectively to engage students in their learning.

3. Practical activities in Unit 2 – Learning through movement | Thursday 30 April 2020
The third webinar in this series will look specifically at a range of practical activities, both within the school setting and in the broader community, that can be used to develop understanding of theoretical concepts through physical activity.

4. Assessment in Unit 2 | Thursday 7 May 2020
The final webinar will look at sample approaches to assessment in Unit 2. Teachers will be provided with further guidance on the requirements for the written plan and reflective folio, as well as the Contemporary Issues task.


Professional learning sessions for VCE® studies – regional Victoria

In conjunction with the VCE briefings above, the VCAA is offering the following professional learning sessions for regional VCE teachers. The sessions will focus on the curriculum and assessment requirements for each of the studies and will be facilitated by the Curriculum Manager of each study.
