Making table tennis easier for teachers to deliver

One of the challenges of introducing a new sport at school can be having the confidence, knowledge and resources to deliver engaging sessions.

Ping.Pong.Play has been developed with this in mind.

The Teacher-Led program provides schools with access to a comprehensive suite of teaching resources designed to make delivering table tennis straightforward and enjoyable. For a one-off cost of $270, schools receive permanent access to the resource library, giving teachers tools they can continue to use long after their Sporting Schools program has finished.

The resources are designed to help teachers deliver fun and engaging sessions while building their confidence and capability to teach table tennis.

A chance to get even more students playing

To further support schools taking part in the program, schools that register for the Teacher-Led Ping.Pong.Play program during the current Sporting Schools grant round will automatically go into the draw to win a free table tennis equipment package valued at $545

The additional equipment can help schools expand their table tennis offering and provide even more students with the opportunity to get involved.

Building teacher capability and student confidence

Ping.Pong.Play is designed to support more than just participation. By choosing the Teacher-Led option, schools can use their Sporting Schools grant to:

  • Build teacher confidence and capability in delivering table tennis.
  • Access comprehensive teaching and lesson resources.
  • Purchase equipment that remains with the school after the program has finished.
  • Provide students with an inclusive and engaging physical activity experience.
  • Create opportunities for students to develop skills, confidence and teamwork through table tennis.

The program is also designed to cater for different levels of experience, making it suitable for students who may be picking up a bat for the first time as well as those who already enjoy playing.

“The students didn’t want the sessions to end!”

The impact of an engaging school sport experience can extend well beyond learning the fundamentals of a new sport.

A teacher from Cornish College, one of the schools involved in the Ping.Pong.Play pilot program, highlighted the enthusiasm the program generated among students:

“The students didn’t want the sessions to end! It’s been such a fun and inclusive way to get everyone active and working together.”

For schools, creating these positive first experiences can be an important step in helping students discover activities they enjoy and can continue participating in throughout their lives.

What is Sporting Schools?

Sporting Schools is an Australian Government initiative supporting primary and lower secondary schools to deliver quality sport and physical activity programs.

Through Sporting Schools, eligible schools can access funding to help bring sporting opportunities to students and connect them with different activities in their school and local community.

Ping.Pong.Play offers schools the flexibility to choose between Teacher-Led and Coach-Delivered formats, depending on their needs and the capacity of their school.

The Teacher-Led model provides an opportunity for schools to build capability within their own teaching staff while establishing resources and equipment that can continue to be used into the future.
