Be Ahead of the Game is proud to introduce two new teaching resources to help Victorian secondary school students understand the risks of gambling and keep themselves and others safe. The unique and exciting lessons have been developed in partnership with Active Education Australia.
Be Ahead of the Game is a Victorian Government initiative that provides free, curriculum-aligned lesson plans, workshops and classroom resources to help young people think critically about gambling and gaming. All units are professionally developed in partnership with experts in education and resource development, and are designed to be accessible, flexible, and support the Victorian school curriculum.
GAME ON. Gambling: a youth health issue
This six-lesson unit for VCE Health and Human Development helps students build an understanding of gambling as a youth health issue. Students will conduct independent research into a selected area of interest and develop help-seeking strategies for people experiencing problems with gambling.
The engaging and practical lessons support students to analyse real-life gambling data and resources and are designed to be accessible to all secondary schools.
GAME ON is mapped to the learning outcomes of VCE Health and Human Development Unit 1, Area of Study 2 (Youth health and wellbeing).
Years 7-10 Health and Physical Education
Through the lens of Health and Physical Education, years 7-10 students can learn about the risks and realities of gambling and gaming to help them make informed decisions. Ten engaging lessons have been developed that cover the following topics:
