Active Schools Expert Support Service
The Victorian Government is committed to helping children and young people be more active, more often.
Delivered in Victorian Government schools, the Active Schools Program supports a whole-school approach to physical activity. It helps schools create environments where every student develops the skills, confidence and motivation to be active for life.
Funded by the Department of Education, Active Education Australia delivers the Active Schools Expert Support Service (ESS). The ESS provides expert guidance to schools implementing the Active Schools Program, supporting long-term, sustainable change that aligns with each school’s priorities, culture and community.
The Active Schools Framework
Schools receiving Active Schools Program funding are supported to implement the Active Schools Framework, which recognises that increasing physical activity requires a multifaceted and systemic approach. The framework focuses on six key priority areas:
· Quality Physical Education
· Quality School Sport
· Active Classrooms
· Active Recreation
· Active Travel
· Supportive School Environment
Through the ESS, schools receive tailored advice, professional learning and practical tools to embed these priorities across their curriculum, daily routines and community partnerships.
A school that values physical activity and commits to promoting it throughout the school day and within the local community can support every child to be active for life.
Active Schools Toolkit
The Active Schools Toolkit includes planning guides, evidence-based resources and real school examples to support schools at any stage of their Active Schools journey. The toolkit is available to both funded and non-funded schools seeking to create a more active school environment.
