The OES Teacher Resource – Working Respectfully with Traditional Owners is designed to build teachers’ cultural awareness, confidence and competence in embedding Indigenous knowledge respectfully within Outdoor and Environmental Studies (Unit 1-4). It scaffolds foundational understanding and links directly to the VCAA Study Design, guiding teachers to approach Aboriginal knowledge with humility, avoid appropriation, properly reference and seek permission, and wherever possible teach in partnership with Traditional Owners.
This PDF resource aligns with the Victorian Government’s Marrung: Aboriginal Education Plan 2016–2026, promoting culturally safe learning environments and strong relationships with Traditional Owners. Structured as a staged learning journey, beginning with foundational non-Indigenous teacher knowledge and progressing to OES study design connections.
